TWD: Chocolate Cream Tart

This week's recipe was chosen by Kim of Scrumptious Photography. You can find the recipe on her blog or on pages 352 and 353 of Dorie Greenspan's book Baking From My Home to Yours.

This is one of my favorite recipes from TWD so far! While some of the other bakers thought it was TOO chocolately, I disagree. It was definitely overwhelming when I first made the tart, but overnight in the refrigerator did wonders for melding this tart together. Creamy, but not too rich, it's my second favorite chocolate cream pie, second only to my homemade French Silk Pie. Although I have to admit this is a completely different type as Dorie's tart is a creamy custard.

See what the other TWD bakers thought of this recipe!

Oooh .. that looks so pretty. I made little tarts from mine, but I never thought to add the chocolate shavings. What a great idea!

Looks good though I'm not a fan of chocolate. My sitter though would go GAGA over this as she's a lover of all things chocolate-y!!

I love how elegant it looks - too pretty! I'm still on the fence on the chocolatey-ness though...

Yum. I have my crust and custard, but am going to wait till tomorrow to assemble them. It is hard to be patient after seeing how wonderful yours looks.

your tart looks marvelous!
i didnt think it was too chocolate-y AT ALL, but thats probably cause I didnt use the chocolate crust, and made the chocolate coconut cream pie instead!
great job though!!

That looks really tasty! I've been a good girl and shipped everything off to work.... So I haven't had a nibble of the tart.

Yours is always the first TWD I look at as it's waiting by email for me in the morning and I'm always kind of scared hoping mine looks like yours. They do and I'm happy about that (mine is smaller). Yours looks great. I was going to do the chocolate shavings on top and totally forgot. I didn't care for the chocolate crust, but the custard was GOOD! Thanks for your example, Amanda.

hey amanda! i'm one of the original members of TWD so i know we don't usually post the recipe. but since i used a completely different tart dough recipe and the host usually doesn't post the "playing around" option, i decided to post the recipe on my blog :) thanks for looking out for the group, though! :)

You know, I've never had a French silk pie before? I guess I need to try it. I'm so glad that this was a big hit for you. I love the chocolate shavings on top.

I thought it was pretty good too! the cream came together quite nicely. and since you've recommended, seems like I've got to give the french silk pie a go as well.

Great photos anyway!

Beautiful Pie, Amanda. I made minis and 1/2 of a mini was a great portion of chocolate goodness. Yours looks perfect.

Your tart looks so lovely. I agree that it wasn't TOO choclatey - lots of chocolate is a good thing!

The words "too chocolatey" do not belong together. There is no such thing.

It looks perfect! I agree that it was not too chocolaty. I loved the way it all worked together. And as I finished up the last of it tonight, I thought that the crust would be so good with some ice cream! Yum! Great job. And thanks for the kind words about my boys!

I totally agree with you. Keeping the tart in the fridge overnight made for an entirely different dessert with the chewy shortbread and thick, creamy chocolate. Job well done! Your chocolate shavings are extra pretty.

I loved this one as well! Yours looks beautiful - the chocolate shavings really make it extra pretty!

I love the chocolate shavings. I was too lazy by that point. I will have to check out the French Silk Pie. it is a serious weakness...
